A Day in the Life

This is hard for me to admit, because for some reason, I feel like a total loser for what I’m about to talk about. Not the topic so much, but just the fact that I’m so fanatic about it. *sigh*

First, I need to explain something about myself. I can get pretty obsessive about things. I usually say it’s a mild form of OCD on my part, but I’m not exactly compulsive, so maybe I’m just unnaturally obessive. Who knows. Anyway, sometimes I can get wrapped up and obsessed with certain things, usually a book, movie, tv show, etcetera. I think about whatever it is constantly and it’s usually all I’ll talk about for a few days. The obsession usually passes within a few days, but while it lasts, I can be so unfocused. So now that you know this, I can proceed to the reason for this blog entry.

Because of the upcoming release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, I have been obsessing over Harry Potter a bit lately. Nothing new, I’ve always been a a huge fan. However, I’ve taken to an activity pertaining to Harry Potter that I used to find huge enjoyment in when I was younger. Oh gah, here it goes, this is actually going to be said on the internet. I…read Harry Potter fanfiction. For some reason, I find this to be a very nerdy thing to do, so it’s hard to admit that this is something I do on a regular basis. Anyway, back to my story…so I’m reading HP fanfiction again. I have my favorite kind of stories to read and I tend to be somewhat picky about storylines and characters in them(see? Total geek-out). I recently came across people on tumblr raving about this HP fanfiction story The Life and Times. Not only were they going on and on about how great the story was, it turned out to be a story about Harry’s parents when they were at Hogwarts which, I have to admit, are my absolute favorite fanfics. I decided to check it out…

Needless to say, it has become my new obsession. And for good reason. The writing is amazing. Seriously, I think it is THE best fanfic I have ever read, and that’s saying something (I have read a TON!). Not only is the author extremely detailed, she really brings all of the characters out of their two-dimensional existences. Even supporting players in the story are developed really well, which is hard for a lot of fanfic writers to do. Gosh, I’m rambling. Just know, that this story is greatness. I started it last Wednesday and caught up to Chapter 31, the most recent chapter update, this morning. While this doesn’t seem like much of an accomplishment, let me put this in perspective. Each of the chapters is something like 25 pages in Microsoft Word, or so the author says. And I totally believe her. They take forever to read! But they are so worth it! I’m absolutely dying for the next chapter to come out! Did I mention that the author is also super creative and has awesome storylines and writing abilities? No? Well, she does! She is totally my writing crush. SO jealous.

My point (finally!): If you are a HP fan, you have to read this story. No ifs or buts about it! It is that good. I could honestly see all of the things happening in this story having happened in a HP prequel that JKR would do, except without the cussing and many sexual references. But who cares? Makes the story even better!

Okay, I’m done now. Promise. But with summer beginning for many of us in just a few days, I thought I would give the HP fans something fun to read over the summer. Again, it’s totally worth it!
